Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The service is great. My mom had never been there before, and they explained each menu item to her and also the ingredients. They were just extremely helpful. The food is always good. I usually get the tacos or bowls which are awesome. There is also plenty of places for seating, whether you want to be inside or outside. The prices are a little much for what it is, but overall, a great food spot.

Chipotle is alright for me, not a huge huge fan, but it's good once in awhile. I get the steak burrito when I do go, the steak is well marinated and taste pretty good. The chicken and pork are alright. They have what you crave for most, just not one of my regular stops.

GREAT EXPERIENCE. Chipotle is always great but the employees working the late shift recently were awesome. My GF and I came in 20 mins before close after a long day on the road and they were nothing but pleasant and very outgoing. We are not from the area so the workers talked us up and told us about the area and tips on driving the rest of the way to Chicago. Keep up the great work!! Go Ducks!!

HORRIBLE!!! Once you get a taste of Panchero's everything else is crap. I got big bites of guac and beans... Why doesn't every place BOB their burritos? Walk across the street and go to Panchero's instead.

Burrito wars. Pretty bold of Chipotle to put a store kiddy-corner to the founding location of Pancheros. I'd have to say though, I prefer Chipotle over Panchero's for ingredients, price, what you get, and chips & salsa. However, Pancheros beats everyone hands down on their tortillas. Pick a Burrito, Fajita Burrito, Burrito Bowl (no tortilla), Tacos (3 hard or soft), or Salad. Then choose either Chicken, Steak, Carnitas, Barbacoa, or Vegetarian. Then top it off with 4 beans, rices, 4 salsas, sour cream , cheese, lettuce, guac, etc. The chips and salsa is awesome too. Right amount and the salt has like lime taste to it on them. They also serve bottled margs, beers, etc. Portions are big. Staff is friendly. Clean and modern atmosphere. Outdoor patio seating. The iPhone app is GREAT to use and have it all ready and walk right on by the entire line and grab & go.

Ever since I moved to Iowa from Los Angeles, I've been meeting many Chipotle haters who are Pancheros lovers. I'm completely bewildered by this fact. In southern California, people are completely bonkers for Chipotle. THAT I can understand. The food is, to be completely honest with you, just great! There is a reason (multiple reasons, actually) as to why this chain is so popular and grew so quickly. The food is great, they have a great brand, and they take great pride in the quality of the food they serve; meaning, most of what they serve is organic and/or local, and they strive to use meat that's naturally raised and without hormones or antibiotics. I understand that Iowans want to support Pancheros because it's a local business, and I can understand that, but we shouldn't disillusion ourselves into thinking that their food is better than Chipotle's. It very simply is not.

I remember going through my freshman year at Iowa disappointed that there was no Chipotle on campus. Luckily my prayers were answered soon after. I can only give it three stars because I have gotten food poisoning at least twice here with a questionable third time tucked way back in my memory. I had never had a bad experience from all of the Chicago locations during high school, why was this one any different? The sick part? It's Chipotle, I kept, and will continue, to go to this location whenever I am in Iowa City because.....well its Chipotle. Hint: if, while ordering, you see the cashier picking stuff out of the sour cream at the end of the assembly line, do not go into auto pilot mode and instinctively order extra sour cream on your burrito. May God have mercy on your bowels if you do.

Awesome burritos! I lov the chicken, chips, and salsa. Friendly servers too.

After moving from Texas, I was glad to see a Chipotle in the Iowa City area (please expand to Coralville!). I personally like the food better than Pancheros and I like knowing their wholesome ingredients are good for my kids. On my most recent trip, I found the staff to be friendly. The manager was very helpful! I had my hands full with two kids and he kindly brought my tray of food out for me. A big plus to know that a place frequented by college students can also be family friendly.

The chicken tastes more 'Grill' than Pancheros. Others are the same.
